MURRAY Bridge car enthusiast Hans Swaarlf has recently imported a rare, pink 1956 Cadillac de ville, the same model the rock legend Elvis owned.
Mr Swaarlf bought the classic over ebay in April and has taken six months to organise its transportation from Rochester, in the United States, to his home in Murray Bridge.
“Government importation and approval has taken a long time, but it was well worth the wait,” he said.
The left-hand drive vehicle is the third addition to Mr Swaarlf’s classic car collection, which already includes a Lincoln continental and a cadillac.
“It is in pretty good condition, I just have to fix the front seat and wait for approval to drive it in Australia,” he said.
Mr Swaarlf said his research showed Elvis bought his mother the exact same car, but he was unsure whether his was ‘the’ car.
“I have a passion for classic cars and as a child I always wanted a cadillac,” he said. “It gets so much attention, plenty of admirers.
“Yesterday a truck driver got so distracted at an intersection staring at it that he moved into two lanes.”
Tilt truck driver Danny Hobbs, who was in charge of moving the vehicle, said, “some men collect cash, some collect women but this man collects fine cars”.
“I have to say this is the best thing that has been on the back of my truck,” he said.
