POLICE are concerned for the safety and welfare of a man reported missing in Purnong.
The 69-year-old has not been heard from since June 22 when he was last seen near shacks at Purnong Landing.
Murray Bridge Police senior sergeant Gus Sickerdick said they were notified of the disappearance on June 25 and have been talking to relatives and were following leads.
“At this stage the Country Fire Service and State Emergency Services are searching along the river bank and where he was last seen,” he said.
“A water response unit has been searching along the River Murray, but have not located anything.”
Police rescue divers have been searching the river but called off the search overnight as light faded.
Police are currently negotiating with relatives to release a photo and the name of the missing man.
The man’s daughter Vicki Crabb said her father had not be seen since last Monday.
Ms Crabb said a friend of her father had raised the alarm.
“My Dad does not normally go near the river,” she said.
“We have lived around the river since I was a kid and he has never learnt to swim.”
Ms Crabb said she found a beanie believed to be her father’s near shacks at Purnong, which had led to the police search of the area.
Country Fire Service crews from Ridley, Cambrai and Walker Flat have been assisting with the search.
