TOWNS across the Murraylands were ravaged by gale force winds on Tuesday, causing trees to fall and widespread blackouts.
Tailem Bend, Callington, Kanmantoo, Mindarie, East Murray and Wanbi were left without power due to storm activity.
State Emergency Services east region commander Scott Turner said a number of teams were called out to attend situations across the region.
“They mainly attended to fallen trees and minor roof damage,” he said.
“This was pleasing given the weather conditions.”
Mr Turner said a Karoonda house lost its pergola roof and crews were called out to assist residents in Callington and Pinnaroo who suffered property damage due to fallen trees.
“Across the Murraylands we were pleased communities were resilient and resourceful,” he said.
“They listened to weather warnings and prepared, reducing damage and potential harm.
“These communities were proactive in taking steps.”
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Matt Collopy said four millimetres of rain was recorded at Pallamana airport on Tuesday.
“Despite the town experiencing heavy showers and thunder, the rain moved quickly through because of the strong winds,” he said.
Mr Collopy said winds of 75 to 80 kilometres per hour were prevalent throughout Monday night, with no rain recorded before 9am on Tuesday morning.
“Just before midday on Tuesday the winds were up to 90 kilometres an hour,” he said.
“Although the winds settled on Tuesday afternoon, a severe weather warning remained.”
Mr Collopy said a cold front was expected to pass through by Friday, bringing up to 10mm of rain. “Showers will ease on Friday as a high pressure moves in.
“It is predicted the Murraylands will be fine and cloudy over the weekend.”
