VANDALS have wreaked havoc on several Murray Bridge schools in the past four months, causing more than $50,000 damage.
Three schools around the town have been targeted, including one that has been targeted in 11 separate attacks since June.
Smashed windows are the most common form of attack, with multiple windows being broken on each separate occasion.
More than 80 windows have been smashed across the three schools.
On September 12 one school had 21 of its windows smashed, resulting in a costly $7500 damage bill.
The same school suffered the most expensive attack in the past four months, on June 6, when two of its windows were smashed, including one that allowed the offenders to gain entry to one of its classrooms.
Once inside the offenders damaged nine computers and stole a digital camera, causing a total damage bill of $11,450.
On several occasions two of the schools have had a window broken, with offenders then attempting to set the inside of the classroom on fire.
Hills Murray Local Service Area Community Programs Sergeant Mark Thomas said police were worried about the increasing trend.
“It’s a big community problem,” he said.
“Schools are getting hit regularly.”
Sergeant Thomas encouraged residents living close to schools to keep an eye out and immediately report any suspicious behaviour.
“We are asking that they be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour,” he said.
“If we can get there early enough we can prevent another spate from happening.”
