With support from his family, Todd Downs achieved his 200-game milestone on Saturday, playing in the league game against Mannum on his home turf.
After of being born and raised at Tailem Bend, Downs first started playing football as a junior with the Tailem Bend Football Club.
“My father (Lloyd Downs) inspired me to play football,” he said.
At the age of 32 Downs has been able to, accomplish some of his sporting goals, which included breaking Tailem Bend’s losing streak with a win over Mannum.
“It was great to have a win after a year-and-a-half of losing,” Downs said.
“It was just a bonus to play 200 games as well.”
Downs has had many career highlights, including wining the River Murray Football League grand finals in 1996, ’97 and 2000.
His ambition for this season is to help the club make the finals series.
With support for junior players Downs is adamant the club will be around for many more years.
“It is (just) hard to keep players in a country town,” he said.
