Brad Martin kicked nine goals for Mypolonga in the league preliminary final against Imperials on Saturday, helping his side to grab a grand final berth next weekend with a ruthless 74-point victory.
For the first term, Mypolonga was kicking with the breeze and got off to a perfect start.
Kicking four goals in a row set up an early lead for Mypo, as Martin was getting ready for a big game with two early goals.
Imperials simply had no one to handle the bigger bodies of the Tigers as a third goal into time-on from Martin gave his side a 15-point lead at quarter time.
During the home and away season Mypo were able to challenge Ramblers and Jervois, but lost to Tailem Bend.
However, the finals are a different story.
The Tigers came with a big game plan and a seven goal to one second quarter almost put the game out of reach for Imperials.
The second term was a carbon copy of how Mypolonga played against Imperials in round 16 - they did as they pleased, making the Blues look pedestrian.
Nothing was going right for Imperials as Mypolonga were perfect in front of goals, booting 11 goals without missing.
By half-time Martin had kicked six of the 11 goals, while Imperials had only two, giving the Tigers a great lead heading into the second half.
Imperials had their season on the line, but simply could not match the intensity and hunger from the Tigers.
Imperials’ Michael Sumner tried to spark his team with four goals in the third the quarter, but Martin hit back, kicking another three, to bring his tally to nine at the final change.
Mypolonga players were beginning to sense victory and as each goal was kicked the celebrations from their supporters grew.
In the final term Mypolonga finished hard, as they extended their margin out to over 12 goals.
The Tigers continued to run out the game, but it seemed Imperials could not wait for the siren to go.
Best for Mypolonga was Martin with his nine goals, James and Joe Pedler and Ash Martin while for Imperials, their best were Luke Harrowfield and Josh Charles.
For Mypolonga it has been 14 years since they grabbed a premiership, and if they have the intensity and skill level they played with against Imperials, they could upset the more fancied Ramblers.
