Imperials’ runners were tireless in their 57-point victory against Mypolonga on Saturday.
Kicking to the river end ,Imperials were first into attack with Mathew Kowald handballing to Luke Harrowfield for a minor score.
Moments later Sam Flinn rushed another to deny Imperials their first major.
Mypolonga attacked and opened their account with Brad Martin running around his opponent to goal from a tight angle.
Luke Harrowfield replied for Imperials after a series of handballs.
With a tap down, Mypo’s Joe Pedler found Joel Eckermann, who passed to Nathan Creaser, who allowed Martin to mark and score from the boundary.
Imperials’ Josh Charles and Braden Cocks combined well across the centre, allowing play to reach Luke Harrowfield who scored another goal.
Mypo replied with another goal through Paul Anastasiou after some good work by George Pedler, Keiren Jaensch and Jed Dunbar.
Roger Puckridge then goaled for the Blues courtesy of a 50-metre penalty, with Girdham slotting another seconds later.
Joe Pedler was able to pull down a good mark and goaled for the Tigers from 55 metres.
He tried to double his tally from his next mark but was slightly offline.
At quarter time scores were Mypolonga 4.3, Imperials 4.4.
At the start of the second quarter Eckermann earned a free in the middle and found Martin who could only score a point.
Flinn was fighting hard across half back, and eventually found Travis Simmons who went forward for Martin to goal.
Puckridge replied for Imperials from a boundary shot.
Scott Meneghetti, Jed Dunbar and George Pedler were playing well for the Tigers.
Running through centre with good skills and pace Imperials were able to goal through Girdham.
Tiger’s Martin, Mathew Lindner and Dunbar came off the ground because of injury.
Henry Hodge was having a good game in the centre of the ground for the Blues.
Imperials’ Cocks goaled, but Creaser replied for the Tigers.
Martin Ballie then opened his account, while Girdham was useful for Imperials.
After a good tackle and a 50m penalty Eckermann was able to score a major for Mypo.
Half-time scores were Mypolonga 8.6, Imperials 8.7.
Mypolonga hit the lead after half-time through Creaser, but this was the last time the ball penetrated their forward line for quite some time.
Imps’ Mathew Gogel kicked long for Josh Charles who marked and goaled from a tight angle.
Imperials then went on a rampage with four goals in the quarter to Ballie.
The Blues had runners all over the ground, leaving their opponents behind.
James Pedler and Daniel Kelly were battling hard for the Tigers, but could not stop Imperials penetrating the half forward line.
Hodge was yellow-carded for 10 minutes, but Mypolonga still struggled to penetrate their half forward line.
Three quarter time scores were Mypolonga 9.7, Imperials 18.10.
Corrie snapped a goal for the Tigers straight after the break.
The Imperial runners took over the game, allowing Puckridge and Luke Harrowfield to score majors.
Tigers were able to score through Corrie after some good work by Creaser and Joe and James Pedler.
Eckermann added to the Tigers’ total after some handy work by Flinn and George Pedler.
The Tigers did not stop trying to run the ball through the forward lines, but were repelled by a solid Imperials backline.
Final score was Imperials 22.13, Mypolonga 13.10.
Best for Imperials was Ouckridge, Girdham, Hodge, Ballie and Hines, while Joe Pedler, Flinn, Eckermann and Creaser battled hard for the Tigers.
