Martin out for 12 months with a knee reconstruction

30 Jul, 2009 08:47 AM
ADELAIDE Crows young gun and former Meningie footballer Brodie Martin was forced to undergo a season-ending knee reconstruction on Tuesday night.

Martin had the reconstruction after scans revealed he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee during the Showdown on Sunday.

Club doctor Andrew Potter said the knee was sore and swollen on Monday morning, prompting further investigation with an X-ray and MRI scan.

“There was no evidence during the game as to the extent of the injury,” he said.

“It is quite unusual for a player to be able to continue to play with this sort of injury.”

The type of reconstruction Martin needs will require 12-months rehabilitation.

Adelaide chief executive officer Steven Trigg said it is a huge disappointment for both Martin and the club.

“He showed great promise in both games and it’s not news we were expecting,” Trigg said.

“We wish him all the best with his recovery and we will do everything we can to help him.”

Martin made his debut against Saint Kilda in round 16 after being upgraded from the rookie list, putting in a solid performance for the chance to be selected last week.

The club also said they would not be making any other comments regarding Martin’s contract with the club.
