A good crowd watched on as Ramblers took the reins in the River Murray Football League clash against the Tigers in fine conditions at Mypolonga on Saturday.
Kym Schenscher and David Curran officiated.
The first quarter saw both teams hard at the ball, with some great defending from both sides.
At full back Mypo’s Ashley Martin put in a great display of defending.
For Ramblers, Patrick O’Neil looked like posting the first score when he kicked on the run, but was offline and managed a behind.
Mypolonga managed to post a major not long after thanks to Brendan Corrie. He kicked a handy goal after receiving a well-guided kick from team-mate Joel Eckermann.
The quarter continued with some good efforts from Mypolonga’s Matt Carman and his opponent Ben Dougall, on the wing.
Ramblers’ Luke Button added to their majors tally and was seeing plenty of the ball, as was his high marking team-mate Adam Jackson, while Joel Matchoss was busy chalking up many stats.
Mypolonga’s Scott Meneghetti and Paul Anastasio were also doing plenty with the ball.
At quarter-time Mypolonga matched it with Ramblers, leading 4.3 to 3.2.
The second quarter was another even contest.
Mypolonga’s Sam Flinn and George Pedler were tough and hard at the ball.
Ryan Morris, Ramblers, posted the first goal for the quarter after taking a strong mark.
James Pedler was dominating the ruck for the Tigers, and with the assistance of Flinn, Mypo wasgetting the ball out of centre with ease.
Ramblers’ defence was rock solid, not allowing the Tigers to penetrate their forward 50 easily.
At the other end of the ground Mypolonga defenders Mark Oborn and Cameron Wells combined well to move the ball out of defence.
Ramblers’ Mark Marchetti and Jarrad Weyland were also an influence on the game with plenty of touches.
It was a low scoring first half with Ramblers taking a six point lead to the main break.
In the second half Ramblers played some very classy football. They went into overdrive while the Mypo boys were only cruising.
In the third quarter Rambler’s Adam Jackson clocked up many possessions, while team-mate Ben Dougall put Ramblers two goals in front after a shot at point black range after an infringement.
Patrick O’Neil was quick and sharp with the ball, notching up further goals and providing plenty of options and drive forward for Ramblers.
Mypo was throwing everything at the game, but as soon as they got the ball into their 50 metre arc they found a wall of opposition players surrounding full forward Brad Martin.
Mypolonga’s John Oxborrow had a good quarter, as did Rambler’s Joel Mattchoss.
At the final break Ramblers led 11.9 to 6.6.
In the final quarter Ramblers continued to run hard at the ball and had many options when moving forward. Jackson added to his tally and goaled early in the last quarter for Ramblers.
Mypo’s three Pedler brothers, James, Joe and George, kept hard at the ball, while Ashley Martin was good in defence. But time was running out.
Flinn, Mypolonga, had a shot at goal from a long way out late in the quarter, but it just dropped short, while Joe Pedler managed its last goal of the game.
In the end Ramblers were too classy for Mypolonga and ran out winners by 48 points.
Rambler’s best were Mattchoss, Jackson and Marchetti, while for Mypolonga Flinn, Martin and James Pedler took the honours.
