Tim to take off

08 Sep, 2009 09:21 AM
Murray Bridge soccer player Tim Prince hopes an upcoming trip abroad could be his chance to break into the lucrative European leagues.

The 17-year-old Murraylands Christian College year 11 student and Adelaide Blue Eagles midfielder is trying to raise the money to attend a training tour in Italy in September.

If he is successful the young footballer will fly out to Rome on November 28, before touring Italy and training and touring with a number of clubs.

The month long tour will include arduous training sessions every day as well as several opportunities to take to the pitch with high-class European players.

"We get there and train with Roma first ... and we will play some mini tournaments with Roma and Latina Select," he said.

The opportunity to travel to Europe is part of an Adelaide Blue Eagles program to expose its younger members to top class players.

"I didn't think I would be any good but a coach there that had coached me in a State side said he wanted me to go and he reckons I'll do alright," Prince said.

Prince is currently a member of the Adelaide Blue Eagles under 17 and under 19 squads, but has his eyes set on even higher levels.

His aim is to pursue his soccer career for as long as possible.

"My goal is to be a professional if I can," he said.

Prince now needs to raise enough money to participate on the tour and has started approaching local businesses in the hope of attracting sponsorship.

"The club does some fundraising and my school has organised some fundraising as well but I still need to do a bit myself," he said.

Prince has asked any businesses or individuals who may be able to help him make the trip to Italy to contact him or his family.
