Monster of a night

A MONSTROUS show at the Murray Bridge Speedway this weekend will see one of the country’s biggest motor sports return to the city.

The speedway will host two of Australia’s most popular monster trucks on Saturday.

The trucks known as Batman and Devil’s Taxi will roar onto the track from 6.30pm - it is the first time in about three years the big trucks have made a visit.

Speedway manager Tim McAvaney said the event would show another dimension of the racing venue.

“It’s something a little bit different to what we normally run,” he said.

It has proved a popular attraction during past visits.

“We’re trying to attract a different crowd to the venue and use the venue for a different purpose.”

Drivers Sam and Michael Xuereb will be behind the wheels of Batman and Devil’s Taxi, but jumping and crushing cars will not be the only spectacles on Saturday.

Sam Xuereb’s own creation, the Wheelie Jeep will also be on show, as will a range of other popular speedway events.

The Murray Bridge Sidecar Championship will also be on the track, as will a sprintcar expression session and a junior sedan event.

World sidecar champion Mick Headland will also be in town for the event, offering expert commentary.

Mr McAvaney said, although Headland was currently on the injured list, it was a privilege to have such an accomplished rider on hand to offer his analysis of the event.

The event will be geared towards families and children in particular, with a pit party to be held before the program to give kids the chance to meet the drivers and riders before the show.

Fireworks and a crane drop will also be featured.

- Details: Monster Trucks will be at the Murray Bridge Speedway this Saturday, February 6 from 6.30pm. The Pit Party will start at 5pm. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children from 12 to 15-years old, $10 for children aged five to 10-years and free for children under five.
