IN cool conditions down at the Lakeside oval, Mannum continued their good form with a solid win over Meningie.
Meningie were first to attack and had their first goal on the board in two minutes thanks to Paul McNicol.
However, Mannum responded by going forward and what followed was some frustrating football on Mannum’s part as they kicked five behinds, spread out throughout the duration of the quarter.
Finally, Justin Moloney kicked truly for Mannum late in the quarter, giving them a three-point lead at the first change.
It was Mannum going forward early in the second quarter as they bombarded the goals, achieving several major and minor scores for the first 20 minutes of the quarter.
Following this mini-onslaught, the Bears responded with a goal to captain Evan Smith.
Both teams were competing well in the centre but it was Mannum who was able to clear the ball effectively as they added yet more minor scores to their tally, giving them a 22-point lead at half time.
Mannum continued to break away from the Bears in the third quarter as Jarrod Woodward kicked truly.
However Meningie responded through Josh Robinson, who was racking up the kicks off half forward, but could only manage two minor scores.
But Paul McNicol was able to regain possession for Meningie following the kick-out and kicked truly for his second goal.
Meningie were able to follow up this with another attack, eventually resulting in a goal to Robert Payne.
But the Roos were quick to respond with a goal to Josh Gould, followed by a goal to Matt Connolly, putting them four goals ahead of the Bears at three-quarter time.
Both sides went all-out in attack in the last quarter, with Mannum hoping to bury Meningie, while the Bears had nothing to lose.
The Roos went forward quickly with another goal to Gould, but the Bears retaliated with a goal to Greg Saddlier and another followed shortly after from John Derrington.
Sensing somewhat of a revival from Meningie, Mannum lifted their game and resumed attacking through Connolly, who kicked his second.
After a couple of quick behinds from Mannum the Bears turned the ball over and added another to their tally with thanks to Nathan Wright.
However, it was Mannum who rounded out the game with three more goals but not before their captain, Ben Quinn, was stretchered off the ground after a heavy hit.
After a sizeable scuffle, two Meningie players were sent from the field.
But it was all in vein as Mannum ran out comfortable winners by 42 points.
Best in the winning side were Sam Schlueter, Andrew Warnest, Paul Sarno, Daniel Smith and Justin Moloney.
For Meningie it was good to see three young players in Josh Robinson, Robert Payne and Matt Miller make the best players, along with the ever reliable workhorses Evan Smith and Tim Saddlier.
