JERVOIS came firing out in their A grade River Murray Netball Association match against Ramblers.

Tracey Kennett was controlling the mid court and being a consistent option around the ring, feeding well into Sally Llewellyn.

Jervois were making the most of their scoring opportunities, while Ramblers were squandering many of their attacking moves.

Jervois continued to control the game in the second quarter, with Julia Llewellyn and Caitlin Liebich making Tania McFee and Kendyl Knott work hard for every possession.

Leanne Bedding kept Ramblers in touch in the quarter with timely intercepts and strong passes into attack.

Ramblers lifted in the third quarter, playing a more controlled game, with Nikki Wehrman making strong leads and precise passing into goals.

Sammy Wehrman stepped up the pressure around the circle, forcing Jervois to make numerous passes and allowing Kat Deans and Leanne Bedding to get their hands to many balls.

In the last quarter Ramblers continued to apply tight pressure all over the court.

Ramblers’ defence picked up many timely intercepts, which Tania McFee made the most of, continuing to shoot extremely well.

Great team work from Ramblers saw them over run Jervois for a one-goal win, 49 to 48.

A reserves

Jervois hit the court full of run and overran a shell-shocked Ramblers side.

Jervois capitalised on every loose pass and intercept, taking an eight-goal lead at the first break. Ramblers’ second term was of a better standard, with the mid court getting control of the game and the goalers converting with ease.

This reduced the deficit to five at half time.

Jervois were not going to be denied and threw everything at Ramblers’ defence, which held strong for a while, but the pressure was mounting and the margin was growing.

Ramblers forced changes at half time and placed strong players into key positions.

However, the Jervois express was full steam ahead and was not going to stop for anything.

Carlie Mason and Kristyn Morris in goals for Jervois, did not miss an opportunity to score, denying Ramblers any rebound goals.

Jervois finished with the run that they started, winning by 15, 57 to 72.

B grade

Ramblers began strongly to lead at quarter time, 14-9.

Rambler goalers Mandy Smith and Chloe Whithorn shot well despite Jervois’ constant pressure in defence.

Jervois began to chip away at Ramblers’ lead to create a 10-goal turnaround through outstanding shooting from Jervois goal shooter Melissa Braun and tight defence from Coralie Batchelor.

The final score was 44 to 57.

C grade

In great playing conditions Jervois started strongly and played a confident game.

Jervois moved the ball well down court and their goalers shot accurately and scored easily.

Ramblers struggled to score despite being presented with many opportunities.

The difference between the sides was the effective use of the ball.

Ramblers made changes at half time, but Jervois were too strong, running out deserving winners, 55 to 29.

17 and under

A fired-up Jervois took control, playing impressive, direct netball led by Casey Modra and Jenna Gamma in defence.

Jervois stretched their slender one-goal lead at quarter time break, to two goals at the long break, through accurate passing and confident shooting.

Midway through the third quarter Ramblers showed Jervois why they are final contenders with a flurry of mid court intercepts by Kate McFee, Krystal McDonald and Tess McDonald.

This set up the goalers with more opportunities which, despite having to work hard for, they were able to convert and give Ramblers a handy three-goal lead at the last break.

Each time Ramblers goaled the Jervois team responded with a goal of their own.

This was the trend for the last term until Ramblers’ tireless goal defender Jess Hein was able to get her hands on a loose ball and sent her team back into attack.

Ramblers finished the game strongly and came away with a five-goal win, 38 to 33.

15 and under, division one

Both teams began the game evenly, trying to gain the advantage for their side.

Ramblers played a few girls out of position and adapted well to those changes, taking the first break in the game.

Jervois, however, continued to fight back, but Ramblers had done the work on the scoreboard.

Ramblers’ Megan Blacket played extremely well for her 100th game, with the team running out 39-goal winners, 57 to 18.

15 and under, division two

Ramblers won the toss and start ed well. It was a well-contested quarter by both teams as they were eager to put goals on the board.

Strong shooting by Emily Miegel helped give Ramblers an eight-goal lead at quarter time.

Jervois settled well, which bought back the deficit to five at half time.

Amelia Schiller fed well into Ramblers’ goalers, and although Jervois’ defence was tight, Ramblers converted shots and led by nine at three-quarter time.

Charley Heym continued playing well and made Ramblers work hard for the ball.

More changes were made by both teams at the final break.

There were tight match-ups all over the court, with the centres playing a big role.

Chelsea Vanson and Chevelle Thiele stepped up Ramblers’ defence, helping Ramblers came out winners by 10 goals, 44 to 34.

13 and under, division two

This was a tough game for Ramblers, as Jervois are a good outfit.

Jervois were strong from the outset with tight defence and were on top in many contests with their height advantage.

Ramblers never gave up and defenders Jacinda Holmen and Danielle Brown put in a great effort to try and combat the strength of the Jervois attackers.

But, the Jervois girls were far too good, running out winners, 34 to 16.

11 and under

Both teams started the game strongly with many forward movements. Ramblers’ small attacking players struggled to find the goals as Jervois’ tall defence did not allow any easy passes.

The second quarter was just as evenly contested, with Ramblers’ mid court players able to move the ball forward more consistently.

Half time scores were Ramblers 12 to Jervois 2. The third quarter saw Jervois with many more scoring opportunities, but they could not convert the long shots they were attempting.

In the fourth quarter Ramblers continued to combined well all over the court to run out comfortable winners, 24 to 4.

Best: Ramblers - Kenisha Seidel, Brydee McCormack. Jervois - Not submitted.

Minis

The game started in beautiful sunny weather with both teams working hard. for the ball and using all their skills.

Jervois turned over the first centre pass and scored a goal through goalers Olivia Hand and Jesse Heym.

Ramblers worked hard through centre court players Sharnique Seidel and Ashley Dougall to bring the ball down many times, but were unable to convert.

The scores were 0-3 at half time.

Both teams made changes, which lifted Ramblers and they were able to score two good goals through the term.

Jervois continued to work hard all over the court with excellent defence work from Brittany Liebich and Tia-Jae Conway-Jaensch.

They helped their team to add a further three goals to their tally and giving them a final score of 6 to 2.

MENINGIE came out firing in their River Murray Netball Association A grade match and scored the first two goals against the home side Tailem Bend.

Tailem fought back immediately and the first quarter seesawed, with a one-goal lead to Tailem at the first break.

Meningie’s Tracey Mitchell was standing tall in goals and scoring freely with help from defender turned gaoler Lauren Thorpe.

The second quarter saw Tailem make a change in goals and Athalie McArdle and Mel Edwards were shooting and moving well.

Kara Haslam in centre for Tailem was feeding her goalers well and in defence Geemas Green was starting to intercept some timely balls.

At half time Meningie was up by one.

Tailem were determined not to play two poor quarters of netball and knew if they worked hard they had a chance.

Thorpe, for Meningie, went back to defence at half time to try and quieten McArdle and Mel Edwards.

Emily Edwards came on as fresh legs for Tailem and had an impact in the centre immediately, with slick movement from Sarah Durdin in wing attack.

Meningie’s April Gibbs, Bethany Marsson and Thorpe were working hard for their team in defence and the game was anyone’s at three-quarter time, with Tailem up again by just one goal.

The last quarter started with some great passages of play, especially between Meningie’s goal shooter Mitchell and Tailem’s goal keeper Green.

Green played her best game of the season, intercepting some very slick passes.

Goal defence Brigietta Gilles also had some timely intercepts and Denise Edwards at wing defence was a rock for Tailem, controlling play and also taking some great interceptions.

Tailem stood tall and for the first time this season had a well-deserved win with great celebrations for the Tailem team.

The final score was Tailem 49, Meningie 44.

Best: Tailem Bend- Geemas Green, Denise Edwards, Athalie McArdle. Meningie- Tracey Mitchell, Lauren Thorpe.

A reserves

Tailem Bend started the quarter well, with Denise Edwards in wing defence working hard and taking many timely interceptions.

Meningie’s Chelsea Gibbs worked hard through the mid court, while Megan Smart shot consistently.

Tailem’s goalers shot well to lead by five at the first break.

Tailem continued to work hard in the second quarter, with Deanne Gower at goal defence taking many interceptions and sending the ball back to the Tailem gaolers.

Meningie made changes in the second half, bringing on A grader Tracey Mitchell into goal shooter.

Tailem tried to combat Mitchell’s height, but lost confidence and Meningie were back in the game.

Tailem lifted again in the last quarter, but Meningie fought back and ended up winning by five goals, 48 to 43.

Best: Meningie- Tracey Mitchell, Chelsea Gibbs. Tailem- Deanne Gower, Gabby Merritt.

B grade

Tailem were first on the scoreboard.

Meningie’s defenders Narelle Hinks and Katrina Hood worked hard on Tailem’s goalers Tina Penhall and Vicki Mayfield who were made to earn every goal.

Val Gollan and Michelle Bagshaw in goals for Meningie were held well by Tailem’s defenders Hannah Lucas and Cassie Kozikowski.

Meningie’s mid court appeared to be slightly on top of Tailem’s at this stage, but Amy Hand at wing defence was having a great tussle with Kirsty Ridley, with Hand coming out on top.

At half time, Tailem bought on Leonne Capes at goal shooter and the game continued to be a tight one.

The second half was a hard fought game with no players backing down and in the end Meningie was victorious, winning by one goal 41 to 40.

C grade

The C grade game started with Tailem shooting three quick goals.

Jaimie Zadow at centre was feeding her goalers Jaimie Collins and Mel Hill accurately.

Tailem were scoring well and were up by two at quarter time.

The second quarter saw Meningie’s Kelly Gubbins put pressure on Tailem’s Crystal Wilkinson, turning over many centre passes in favour of Meningie.

Taylor Hansen and Jade Capes pressured Meningie gaolers Michelle Swan and Dana Wilson, sending the ball back to the Tailem goalers many times.

Meningie made a final lunge at the score, but Tailem kept the momentum up and ran out winners by five goals, 41 to 35. Best: Tailem- Mel Hill, Robyn Mayfield. Meningie- Dana Wilson, Lia Amber.

17 and under

This game started at a quick pace, with Tailem very determined.

Meningie’s goalers Tahlia Long and Lyticia Weetra shot some great goals in the first quarter.

Teegan and Mel Edwards for Tailem were shooting accurately and the first quarter scores were 22 to 9.

Tailem started to dominate in all positions in defence with Ashlee Clapp, Jade Capes and Taylor Hansen taking many interceptions.

Wing defence Shelyn Wilkinson got her hand to many balls and Emily Edwards was playing a strong attacking and defensive game at centre.

At half time the score was 41 to 12.

Meningie never gave up and tried rotating their team to get their best results.

Tailem’s Bonnie Piggott was having a great game at wing attack and was having a strong influence on the result.

The last quarter saw Tailem make some changes, bringing Teegan Edwards out to wing attack, Emily Edwards into goals and Taylor Hansen into centre, which was a strong combination.

Tailem ran out winners by 58 goals, 78 to 20.

15 and under

The game started slowly, with Tailem scoring the first goal and finding their rhythm.

Quarter-time scores were Tailem 12 to Meningie 8.

As the game progressed both teams played some good netball.

Tailem’s goalers Kirstie Gregory and Leticia Krueger were shooting accurately and defenders were sticking tight.

Meningie were playing well as a team.

At half time the score was Tailem 22 to Meningie 20.

The game continued to stay tight, with Meningie fighting back hard.

Meningie jumped to the lead and was up by seven at the third break.

The last quarter saw Tailem make a run and challenge Meningie, but Meningie was too strong and won by four goals, 45 to 41.

Best: Meningie- Sophie Vivian, Hannah Pittendriegh. Tailem- Jaimie Zadow, Ebony Bristow.

13 and under

Tailem played with great strength.

The game started with great gusto from both sides.

Molly Kneebone was strong in defence and Carly Piggott was creative in wing attack.

Tailem’s team and coaches were excited to have scored their highest score for the season.

The final score was Meningie 41 to Tailem 16.

11 and under

Tailem took control with great defence from Emily Tresize, Shaelan Paech and Sarah Shepherd.

Some fantastic shooting and movement from Bridey Merritt and Ash Zadow saw Tailem up by nine goals at quarter time.

The second quarter saw Meningie start well, with defenders Krianna Wilson at goal attack and goal keeper Mika Guya defending well.

Tailem’s mid court of Sarah Duell and Nikita Capes fed their goalers accurately.

Brook Angel at goal attack and Coco Karriem at wing attack played a solid quarter for Meningie.

Tailem increased their lead by 14 at half time.

Tailem made some positional changes, with Brianna Penhall at goal attack and Sarah Shepherd at goal shooter proving to be a good combination.

Meningie’s Abby Hood at goal attack and Alysha Eckert at goal shooter played well and had many opportunities for goal.

The last quarter started scrambled, with both teams defending well.

Tailem’s defenders Emily Tresize, Sarah Duell, Nikita Capes and Alex Appelbee played an exceptional last quarter.

Tailem ran out winners 30 to 12.

Best: Tailem- Nikita Capes, Emily Tresize, Shaelan Paech. Meningie- Brook Angel, Caitlin Lord.

Minis

The game started evenly with both teams turning over multiple balls.

The ball went up and down the court many times before Meningie’s goalers Shania Weetra broke the ice, shooting the first goal.

Tailem’s defenders Madeline Williams and Molly Maddaford did extremely well in the second quarter, forcing errors at their end.

Kiarra Paech did well chasing down every loose ball and passing strongly.

The third quarter saw Tailem’s Taylah Edwards and Breeanna Connolly in goals trying hard to create space in the circle.

Bethany Clapp and Katie Aspel at wing attack were a great match up in the last two quarters.

Georgia Duell and Molly Maddaford showed great skill and determination all game, feeding their goalers well.

The final score was Meningie 12 to Tailem 2.

IMPERIALS showed their dominance in River Murray A grade netball on Saturday at Mannum.

Imperials won the toss and elected for the first centre pass, which was turned and sent into the Mannum attack, with Mannum unable to convert.

The first quarter saw good defensive pressure from Imperials’ defenders Sharon Taylor and Dallas Huxtable, making Mannum’s goalers Amy Loechel and Katrina Reschke work hard for every goal.

Mannum’s goal keeper Chantelle Zadow was applying pressure to her opponent Jenna Daniels, but Daniels’ accuracy gave her team the confidence, netting nine from nine for the quarter.

Leah Zadow left the court in the latter part of the quarter due to illness but Imperials continued to play error-free netball.

Scores at the first break were Imperials 15 to Mannum 9.

Mannum made a change for the second term, with Andrea Wegner joining Tracy Loechel in defence, with both combining well, but Mannum’s error rate allowed Imperials to easily convert.

Imperials’ 19 scoring opportunities to Mannum’s 10 for the quarter gave Imperials a 13-goal lead at half time.

Hard physical contests were seen all over the court in the third term, with Kimberly McQueen and Penny Fielke battling it out through the centre court.

Tracy Loechel at goal defence for Mannum and Olvia Scholz at goal attack for Imperials both provided drive through the mid court for their respective teams, with Scholz delivering classy passages of play to Daniels in the ring.

Mannum continued to make unforced errors, with Imperials cherishing turn overs and converting.

A flat looking Mannum side could not stop the flow of Imperials, with scores at three-quarter time Imperials 46 to Mannum 24.

Mannum made changes going into the final term, with Renae Wakefield taking the court at goal keeper and Chantel Warnest and Vivienne Rosenzweig changing in attack/defence.

Mannum tried hard throughout the quarter, with Reschke shooting accurately for Mannum, but Imperials continued to play positive netball.

Carrie Daniels was feeding with precision to her goalers, with both Scholz and J Daniels not missing a goal for the quarter.

J Daniels was outstanding for her team, netting 43 from 44 shots, as was Scholz, netting 24 from 29.

The final scores were Imperials 66 to Mannum 33.

A reserves

Mannum opened strongly from the first centre pass, scoring the first goal.

Imperials settled after early turnovers to maintain an even score early in the quarter.

Strong rebounding and pressure from goal keeper Kathy Rast and goal defence Kellie Schmidt gave Mannum the edge to hold a three-goal lead at the first break.

Imperials made changes to their defensive line up, bringing Kim Perriman on at wing defence.

This move made the Mannum attack work harder to get the ball into their goalers.

Goal shooter Andrea Wegner was playing a strong game in goals for Mannum and shooting accurately.

Imperials’ Deanna Lush and Mannum’s Shelby Rosenzweig were having a great battle in the centre court.

Mannum had extended their lead to five goals at the main break.

The sides remained unchanged for the third term.

Mannum defenders were making Imperials’ attackers work hard to get the ball into their goalers.

Imperials’ goal attack Katrina Hunt was shooting accurately once receiving the ball.

Mannum raised the work rate at the end of the quarter to hold an eight-goal lead going into the last quarter.

Mannum maintained their pressure with many turnovers and strong rebounding, but their goalers were not able to capatilise on every opportunity.

Mannum proved too strong on the day winning by eight goals, 43 to 35.

B grade

In the last game of the day Mannum entered the court determined to take the match up to Imperials.

Imperials started strongly, scoring the first two goals before Mannum were able to open their account.

A determined Mannum stepped up and gradually pegged the score back to take a one-goal lead at the first change.

Imperials came out fired up in the second quarter and lifted their work rate to take a four-goal lead part way into the quarter.

Mannum was moving the ball well but a few missed opportunities allowed Imps to gain a strong lead.

A serious knee injury to one of the Imps players stopped play towards the end of the second quarter.

When returning to the court the momentum swung back to Mannum momentarily.

Imperials had an 11-goal lead at the main break.

Mannum also lost one of their goalers through injury part way through the third quarter.

This unsettled Mannum, and Imperials stayed focused to extend their lead to 16 goals at the last change.

Strong defensive work and accurate shooting by Mannum allowed them to gain a little early in the quarter, but Imperials proved why they are strong finals contenders by running out winners by 20 goals, 64 to 44.

17 and under

Imperials got off to a flying start, with their goalers Alyce Clarke and Zoe Gepp shooting extremely accurately and gaining the majority of rebounds.

Mannum were trying to settle some new combinations and were unable to stop the flow of Imperials.

Imperials goal defence Jade Lewis was impressive as she picked up many loose balls.

She was well supported by wing defence Breanna Schenscher, driving down the court and sending the ball into attack.

Mannum wing attack Maddi Henry was working hard to get the ball into the goal circle.

Imperials led 38-17 at half time.

Alannah Vanzo at centre for Imps was strong all over the court.

Imperials led 58-22 at three-quarter time.

Mannum played their best netball in the final quarter, with Anastasia Kendall and Cassandra Buscumb combining well in goals and shooting accurately.

Jennipher Vivian moved to centre and provided good drive down the court, feeding the ball into the goalies.

The final score was Imperials 79 to Mannum 34.

Best: Imperials- Alyce Clarke, Zoe Gepp, Jade Lewis. Mannum- Cassandra Buscumb, Jennipher Vivian.

15 and under division one

Mannum started strongly with Bianca Schache and Lucy Kendall moving well and shooting with high accuracy.

Shaidan Rochow ran well against Imperials’ Kristy Snell, with Rochow and Mannum’s wing attack Jasmine Woods feeding the goalers well.

Olivia McLoughlin and Carla Samblich worked hard against the defence of Annie Rudiger and Shannon Rosenzweig.

The mid-court combination of Emma Schlueter, Gemma Woollard and Jasmine Woods attacked the ball hard in both attack and defence.

Imperials’ defence of Lexy Blight and Brianna Burt and the endless attack of Libby Fraser gave lift to their side.

The well fought out game finished with Mannum winning by 24 goals.

15 and under division two

It was an even contest from the first whistle, with Mannum gaining the upper hand due to Ashleigh Mobbs and Karina Harris working hard in goals.

Kaitlin O’Sullivan was positioning well at goal shooter for Imperials.

The second quarter started solidly for Imperials, who shot the first five goals.

Ebony Story was feeding well at wing attack for Imperials.

The third quarter was evenly matched.

The centres Ruby Adams (Mannum) and Tamara White (Imperials) were having a physical tussle.

Mannum came out strong in the fourth, but Imperials managed to bring the game under control with Michelle Martin working well at goal defence.

Imperials unsettled Mannum and this allowed them to finish the game with a good win 38 to 28.

Best: Mannum- Ashleigh Mobbs, Ashleigh Vivian. Imperials- Tamara White, Erin Lindsay.

13 and under division one

Mannum shooters were combining well and Imps defenders were making them work hard for every opportunity.

Mannum turned their first ball to take a one-point lead at quarter time.

Mannum were working hard but the attack side for Mannum lost their focus and allowed Imps to surge ahead by two goals.

With some changes made at half time Mannum came out firing and scored the first three goals.

Imps were able to get a look in and then score a goal of their own.

The final quarter was nail-biting.

Mannum increased the intensity, making Imps earn every goal, but Imps were able to respond.

The Mannum goalers tried valiantly, but Imperials managed to turn a quick ball in the final moments of the game and finished up winning by two goals.

13 and under division two

Mannum centre Tara Yeates and wing attack Holly Modra were running the mid court well, but had pressure from Imperials centre Danielle Monjean and wing defence Jasmin Story.

Danielle Monjean was reading the play well and took a few pivotal intercepts for her team in the second quarter, backed by accurate shooting by Chantelle Monjean.

Mannum’s Yeates was watching the ball and reading the play well for her team.

Mannum made changes for the third quarter with Sophie Kroehn now playing keeper and combining well with goal defence Alana Schache, who was intercepting well.

Mannum’s Nikia Rose and Modra combined well in defence with wing defence Stephanie Winter.

However, the Imperials shooters were accurate and scored five goals each this quarter.

The final scores were Mannum 13 to Imperials 32.

11 and under

Imperials and Mannum started strongly.

Although Imperials fought hard all over the court to gain a good win, Mannum never looked weak.

Many intercepts by Emily Alexander down the mid court kept Mannum right up there.

Star wing attack Lara DeMichele (Imperials) fed well to her goalerss, and worked well with zippy Leitisha Ward.

Best: Imperials- Lara DeMichele, Leitisha Ward. Mannum- Kelsey Chadwick, Kayla Robinson.

Minis

Imperials started the game with the centre pass but it took most of the quarter for any team to get the ball into their goal ring.

Elizabeth Griggs, Aleesha Neville and Erika Mullins in the mid court for Mannum created space and moved the ball well.

In goals Rhiannon Yeates and Sophie Stagg combined well and scored two goals for the quarter.

In the second quarter goal keeper Rachel Gassner and goal defence Zara Male continued their excellent defensive skills with Male intercepting many passes.

Mannum centre Nikayla Clark moved well and made some great passes.

Ayla Craig at goal keeper for Mannum was reading the play well and picked up many loose balls that came into the goal third.

Changes by Imperials in the last quarter saw the ball move effectively into the goal ring and excellent shooting resulted in three goals for the quarter.

Mannum extended their score by another two goals to finish the game with eight, eight to three.
