FOR Paul Haebich it was a case of so close yet so far.
The Murray Bridge 8 ball pro recently finished equal 10th at the State 8 ball titles in Adelaide, but was just two games away from forcing a playoff, which would have given him a chance to jump into the top eight and gain a place in the State side.
"I finished with 50 wins, if I finished on 52 it would have forced a play off," he said.
The tournament was a challenging experience for Haebich. "I played 100 games over two weekends," he said.
"It was mentally gruelling and there was no rest...it was full on.
"The level of the competition was extremely high with a lot of the best players in Australia involved."
Haebich started off well, but a lapse in concentration proved costly.
"At the end of the first weekend I was sitting in fourth place.
"But I had a bad day on the following Saturday and it cost me."
The 32-year-old spent an endless amount of time practising for the tournament.
He spent almost every day practising at his parent's pool table as well as playing Superleague 8 ball in Adelaide for Chalkers.
Haebich said he hoped to get as far as he could with his career.
