FRIDAY night Lower Murray Hard Court Tennis started off with some entertaining doubles matches between Mannum Green and Lutheran Red.
Lutheran won three of the four contests with Mannum only winning the top doubles.
Lutheran Red seem to have recruited very well this season and have a very deep and talented team.
Tracey Lochel played very well for Mannum winning both her singles and doubles.
Lutheran held away in the singles winning them six sets to two.
Matt Perriman, Albert Goodridge, Steve Kavanagh, Jill Roolford and Mitchel Davids were all two set winners for Lutheran.
Brinkley v Mypolonga Gold
Brinkley hosted Mypolonga Gold in perfect conditions for tennis.
Mypo started off well, winning three of the four doubles matches.
Their good form continued in the singles winning five of the eight.
In the doubles Brinkley’s combination of Heather Richards and Janine Pfeiffer played a close match against Mypo’s Jeanne Weinmann and Iris O’Loughlin, with the Mypo pair winning 9-7.
In the singles Brinkley’s Andrew Tyerman and Mypo’s Kim Miller played out a tie-break, with Tyerman getting up 7-2.
Many sets were closely contested and hard fought, despite the scorelines.
Lutheran Blue v Mannum Gold
Lutheran Blue dominated in the doubles against Mannum Gold winning the top two doubles 9-5, 9-5.
Mitchell Lienert and Jess Burbidge from Lutheran had a solid 9-0 win over Mannum’s Tamara Wachtel and Jessica Wachtel.
But Mannum’s third doubles were determined not to let Lutheran take another.
Angela and Andrew Strauss, Mannum, fought hard to win 9-1 against Lutheran pair Todd Lienert and Brett Davids.
Lutheran Blue dominated in the singles winning six sets to Mannum’s two.
Mannum’s Angela Strauss had a good singles win 6-1 and teammate Todd Sonntag gave Mannum their second singles win of 6-4.
Lutheran Blue won the day 9-63 to Mannum Gold’s 3-45.
Two set winners for Lutheran were Robbie Stefaniak, Bryan Wilsdon, Ernie Ahrens, Mitchell Lienert and Jess Burbidge.
Mannum’s two set winner was Angela Strauss who played consistently in both singles and doubles.
Brinkley Blue v Mannum
Brinkley Blue hosted Mannum in cooler conditions.
Brinkley started strongly, winning two opening doubles but Mannum held on to win in a tight tie-break match, Lyn Wegener and Roger Hansford won 2-7.
Brinkley proved too powerful in the reverse doubles.
Damien Bates, Brendan Lambe, Jade and Zoe Pearson won all their doubles during the day.
Brinkley won 7-2.
Mypolonga v Brinkley Beige
It was a wonderful day for tennis with Mypolonga’s top double of Matt Goldsmith and Roger Head wining 6-0.
After the first section of doubles it was Mypo with two sets and Brinkley with one with a tightly contested tie-break with John and Cindy Hein from Mypolonga against Heather Richards and Ron Schubert of Brinkley.
The Brinkley pair won the tie-break 7-4.
Those four players went on and everyone of their matches was a tie-break with a total of four for the day.
After Brinkley won three of the four tie-breaks the day came down to the last match.
At the last set of the game it was four sets all and with another tightly contested game between John and Cindy Hein and Richards and Schubert with Mypo winning the set 7-4 in the tie-break and winning the day.
Tailem Bend v Lutheran
All of the doubles were well played, especially the third double which was a tie-break going Tailem Bend’s way.
Lutheran led two sets to one set after the first section of doubles and also led four sets to two sets after second sets of doubles but it was up to the third section of doubles where two tie-breaks went Tailem Bend’s way but Lutheran won the deciding set and the day, 5-46 to 4-41.
Juniors division one Brinkley v Mannum Gold
The top two doubles resulted in tie-breaks each way when Brinkley hosted Mannum Gold.
Brinkley took the third double 6-1.
The singles matches gave the crowd some entertaining rallies and there was also some big hitting.
Singles wins for Brinkley went to Jackson Koch, Jordan Richards, Ryan McKaye, Kirby Richards and Aidan Martin.
Chloe Schellen flew the flag for Mannum winning both of her sets on the day.
Brinkley won 7-48 to 2-32.
Lutheran v Mannum Green
Players and spectators were greeted with excellent calm and sunny conditions at Christian Reserve on Saturday morning where Lutheran hosted Mannum Green.
Lutheran pair Mathew Penta and Shaun Farley got their team off to a good start when they took on Mannum’s Kye Amber and Rachel Hartley.
The other doubles sets were shared and both went to 6-3.
The closest of the singles games was between Lutheran’s Mitchell Davids and Mannum’s Isaac Christiansen.
Christiansen won 6-4.
Lutheran won the day 5-4 but Mannum did well for a team relying on four fill-in players.
Division two Lutheran Blue v Jervois
Brodie Quarry and Courtney Ludewigs played well against Jervois’ Kayla Schultz and Kyle Nicholas-Benney.
Jervois won the match as the Lutheran pair got their partnership together.
Alex Rhode and Serena Lienert played strongly against Sebastian Gazzola and Andrew Smith from Jervois. Lutheran won the match.
Lutheran’s returned player Austin Johns showed great form with partner Jayden Asser who was strong against Jervois’ Dylan Barry and Zac Nicholas-Benney, who also played some great shots to make an entertaining match to watch.
All singles games were competitively played with the Lutheran team winning overall, 7-2.
Brinkley v Mypolonga
In perfect conditions Brinkley played Mypolonga. Starting with the doubles Dale Binney and Joel McFee defeated Stephanie Hagger and Slayde Moore, 6-3, with many fine rallies.
Brinkely ran out winners with Dale Binney, McFee, Anderson and Albanesi all winning their singles.
The final score was 7-2.
Tailem Bend v Mannum
It was another great day for tennis with Tailem Bend winning all the doubles but Mannum put up a good fight.
With the singles on the way Kirstie Gregory had a good win over Michelle Budarick.
Leticia Krueger played a very good single against Ellen Budarick also with both players hitting good shots.
Krueger took the win.
Donna Hansford put up a good fight against Ryan Belt with his hard serves and placement of shots.
Grantley Byrnes had a good win against Emily Alexander who played very consistently.
Kelsey Chadwick played a very consistent game to win from Rhys Capes, 6-3.
Division three Mypolonga Black v Lutheran
Second week started off really well with all players getting out and having fun.
Most of the games played were very close in the end and most ended with deuce.
Match of the day went to Bradley Rudloff and Kai Martin.
The game started off with Martin leading 4-1 but Rudloff came back to bring the set home, 6-4.
Mypolonga Gold v Tailem Bend
It was a perfect day to play tennis with some good rallies.
Tailem were strong winners.
Mannum v Brinkley
Second round for year Mannum hosted Brinkley at home.
All players played well - Tyson Neville from Mannum and Ryan Lewcock from Brinkley were very evenly matched with their singles score ending 6-5 Neville’s way.
Tegan Simons from Mannum and first year player Brayden Williss from Brinkley also played very well in their singles match.
Brinkley were overall winners for the day.
Division four Lutheran v Jervois
Lutheran won eight games to one on beautiful day for the second game of the season.
Amekia Rigney and Megan Schultz had a very close game with some fantastic rallies.
Khian Rigney played very well winning doubles and singles.
Lara Pickering served well in her first game while Tegan Afford from Jervois also displayed some great serves.
Mannum v Mypolonga
Mannum hosted Mypolonga in perfect weather conditions, winning the overall doubles matches 2-1.
Mannum’s Thomas Griggs and Jade Eades lost to Samuel Stock and Riley Walton 2-4.
Griggs and Stock both served consistently well with Eades and Walton improving throughout the match.
Mannum won the singles round 4-2.
The singles match of the day was between Mannum’s Daniel Gowling and Dylan Thomas.
The match was won by Gowling 4-3.
Mannum won the day 6-3.
