Postel takes over

POSTEL took over top spot on percentage after a sound ten-set victory over cellar dwellers Banks in Saturday’s round of Murray Bridge lawn tennis.

Postel took full advantage of a Banks side that was minus two key ladies with Postel’s ladies not dropping a solitary set as youngster Natalie Daish and veteran Coralie Bryan remained unbeaten.

Lorraine Vickers did likewise but only after a hard fought singles win over Paula Reid while Helen Daish saved match points in her tiebreak win over Banks captain Sherryn Crane.

Banks fared a lot better in the men’s section winning four of the six singles that were contested.

Youngster Alex Cazzolato had a great win over Richard Prentice at number six while team-mate Jason Schulz returned to the line up and had a good win over Steve Maxwell at number five.

The top duo of Rob Wainwright and Nathan Bolt both recorded comfortable singles wins.

However, Postel’s Bryan Wilsdon and David Crouch were in good touch putting a stop to any thought of a Bank’s comeback by remaining unbeaten for the victors.

Schools had to wait for the first mixed doubles to be completed before running out comfortable eight-set victors over Sportsmen.

Despite the win, Schools actually slipped to second on the ladder by virtue of Postel’s big win.

Schools’ men played well in capturing five of the six singles as top gent Dave Altmann found form against old rival David Schulz in an entertaining battle.

Strong wins were also recorded by Jason Bormann, Rob Butcher and Martin “Doc” Altmann while Ashley Temby won an enthralling encounter with Matthew Peake in a tie-break.

Sportsmen’s only men’s single came from the racquet of Kelvin Farnham who was in formidable touch remaining unbeaten.

In the ladies section the dynamic duo of Tania McFee and Kylie Bormann remained unbeaten with Bormann answering the critics with a fine win over Jen Magerkorth.

For Sportsmen Natalie Pearson remained unbeaten while her doubles partner Rebecca Peake had a confidence building win against the wily Rosie Daish.

In the final match Murraylands’ moved into third spot after a four-set win over Swanport.

The Swannies were without regular top lady Kaye Zadow and subsequently Murraylands’ women were too strong, capturing all four singles.

Deanna Smith, Kara Bolt and Dee Waechter were in stunning form with the latter two remaining unbeaten ,while youngster Caitlin Waechter had a tougher time before downing Val Scott 6-4 at number two.

The men’s section was more evenly contested as Swanport’s Keith Scott and Jackson Webb won comfortably while top gent Steve Braun dug his way out of trouble to capture an epic tie-break win over a gutsy “Cool Hand” Luke Wilson.

For the victors their middle order stood firm as Phil Marks and Chris “Stan” Walker scored good singles wins while young gun Tavis Saunders claimed yet another scalp with a good win over the experienced Richard Crane at number two.
