Clark admits Delhi blasts have Australians nervous

30 Sep, 2008 12:30 AM

THE recent deadly bombings in New Delhi are weighing on the minds of Australian players, according to fast bowler Stuart Clark, who yesterday articulated the apprehension within the team about proceeding to the Indian capital to play the third Test.

The tour will begin with a first-class match in Hyderabad from Thursday, against a backdrop of nervousness among some players after a low-grade bomb exploded in a crowded marketplace in southern Delhi on Saturday, killing a young boy and injuring more than 20 people.

"It is pretty fresh in everyone's mind at the moment," Clark said. "We are still hanging out and waiting to see what will happen, but there is some … concern that we are going to somewhere where an explosion has just been. I would be lying if I said there wasn't."

The players are receiving regular briefings from tour security consultant Frank Dimasi, who has completed a report on the Delhi blast for Cricket Australia. The report does not make a recommendation about whether the Australians should play in Delhi.

Complicating matters is that the Australians are supposed to be based in Delhi between the second and third Tests, which coincides with Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.
