AN alfresco eating area, baby changeroom and a fountain to water your dog as you shop may sound like a description for a shopping centre in the middle of Adelaide, but in fact they are some of the surprises in store for Mannum residents when the Mannum Green shopping centre opens.
The $6 million project has entered its final stages with project manager Bruce Harris expecting to set a construction record when building is finalised at the beginning of September, after 77 working days.
“This is going so well we are claiming fastest build for a $6 million project,” he said.
“We handed the project over yesterday (Tuesday) for the $3 million fit-out for data, fire controls and refrigeration.
“Car park lights went up yesterday and a third lane and turning lanes have been put in to cope with the increase of traffic on Adelaide Road.”
Mr Harris said he was excited about some of the environmentally positive aspects of the build.
“When the conditions are better outside than in, the reverse cycle will shut down and bring in double filtered air from outside instead of running the compressors,” he said.
“We are recycling rainwater to use in all the staff and public toilets.”
Once the project is complete, the centre will host a 2100-square metre IGA supermarket and 13 specialty shops.
