Community groups can now apply for a share of $1 million available through the state government’s Fund My Community grant program.
Grants of between $10,000 and $100,000 are available for projects aimed at supporting disadvantaged, isolated or vulnerable South Australians to participate in their local communities and build foundations for positive change in their lives.
Non-profit, incorporated organisations can apply for the program.
The public will then play an important role by voting for the projects they think should receive a share of the funding.
The approach involves citizens in government decision making and ultimately has a greater impact on the community.
Fund My Community is a $1 million grant program for one-off projects aimed at improving the wellbeing of:
- low income families and the long term unemployed
- young people disengaged from education and work
- people with a disability or chronic health issue
- people living in communities with entrenched locational disadvantage
- people affected by domestic or family violence or abuse
- people experiencing discrimination.
Communities and Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison said Fund My Community gave every South Australian an opportunity to influence where funding should be directed.
“This program has proven to be successful in giving every citizen a voice – and a choice – when it comes to fulfilling their community’s needs,” she said.
“Previous grant recipients include Food for the Community, which used its $15,000 grant to buy a van used to collect and deliver food to those in need.
“Strength in Numbers used its funding to cover the costs associated with providing financial counselling services to women escaping domestic violence.
“These are just two of the worthy projects that have made a genuine impact on the lives of some of our state’s most vulnerable people.”
