High scoring golf at Murray Bridge Club

Players piled on the Stableford points last Saturday.

Recently joined member Ben Carman shone with a brilliant round of 42 points off his 19 handicap to be the day's overall winner, he finished powerfully with a 23-point back nine.

A grader Andrew Meddle’s two nines of 20 points apiece gave him a one stroke victory over nine-time club champion Jeremy Scannell who shot a brilliant one under the card 67 for 39 points off his two handicap.

Resurgent B grader Malcolm Blight made his previous Saturday's effort a distant memory when he amassed 41 points after being just one shot shy of raising his bat in the stroke comp.

Des Ayres played well for 38 points and was runner up.

There was a tie in C grade where the powerful James Clarke and the more delicate Mildy Raveane each compiled 39 points.

Mildy probably expected to win the countback with a super back nine of 22 points but Clarke shot an off the planet 25 points to win.

Five pointers are rare but a three for five on the 13th was a real bonus.

Voucher winners were Dion Hikuroa and Ubby Te Aho on 39, James McLaren, Dave Graham and Trevor Healy on 38, Paul Harding, Grant Christiansen, Greg Schmidt, Kevin Shepley, Jim Ferguson and Gavin Sanderson on 37 and Mumfy on 36.

Rod Foreman was inches away from acing the fourth and won the NTP for it while Trev Healy won the second, Tarmz Matthews the sixth, veteran Ron Peacock picked up the 11th, Schmidty the 14th and SuperSid the 17th.

Clarke won the Pro Competition while Jeremy Scannell topped off a good day by eagling the 12th to clear out the eagles nest.

Ladies

The Better Health Stableford Competition was on Saturday and Mary Langsford was the overall winner with a score of 35 points.

Robyn Teasdale was the open placegetter with 32 points and, NTPs were won by Ady Wright on the second and Liz Hodge on the fourth hole.

The opening of the winter season was celebrated on Tuesday, it was a three-person Ambrose competition followed by a shared lunch.

The winning threesome was Liz Hodge, Maureen Johnson and Sue Antel with a score of 72 1/6.

The prize was matching pink sun visors donated by our Pro Shanan and presented by our captain Liz Llewellyn.

In second place was Liz Llewellyn, Kathy Pfeiffer and Lyn Jericho with 73 2/3.

Ady Wright, Dianne Wickes and Pat Ward came third, scoring 74 1/3.

Ward played well, she returned to play 18 holes for the first time after eight months off and was a welcome addition to her team.

We also welcomed back Wendy Baker and although she played in a three person competition, Martha was a no show and had to be carried by Wendy and Bev Magor all day.
