Mrs Merlinda Hunt from Green Farmhouse address the March meeting of the Murray Bridge Garden and Floral Art Club on her business of preparing and marketing of Australian native seasonings and salts.

Mrs Hunt, along with her husband Harvey and children Hayden and Haylee, have been running Green Farmhouse in Angaston since acquiring the business following the passing of its founder, Annette Green.

“At Green Farmhouse we use native ingredients combining them with traditional herbs and spices to create seasonings and salt blends to complement current food fashion,” Mrs Hunt said.

“Our products have won a swag of medals at Sydney Royal Fine Food. In 2008 Green Farmhouse was the Regional Produce winner in the Limestone Coast WIN TV Tourism Excellence Awards.”

Mrs Hunt said their first major ingredient was wattle seed which high in protein is ground and used as a flour by Aboriginal people.

“Giving a touch of Murraylands and the Coorong to our ingredients, we use Kunzea Pomifera which is commonly called Muntries or Muntharis. The fruits of this prostrate plant are 5-10mm in diameter with the appearance of a tiny apple.”

She said their best seller is ‘Salt with Attitude’.”

“Salt with Attitude’ contains sea salt, bush tomatoes and chillies. It’s a salt with a kick and is used to dress up fish, meat, potatoes, eggs and vegetables dishes,” she said.
