ELECTED: Nick McBride is the new Liberal candidate to contest the seat of MacKillop.

Nick McBride has been chosen to contest for the seat of MacKillop at next year’s state election after securing the Liberal preselection candidacy.

Mr McBride of Conmurra won with a majority number of the 190 votes cast by Liberal Party members on Sunday. The vote was a secret ballot.

Mr McBride said he was not anticipating to be named the winner and was surprised because of the tough competition from the other six candidates.

“It’s the most humble moment I’ve had for a long time and it took the wind out of my sails when they called my name,” Mr McBride said. “I never gave myself serious consideration because there was a great line-up of six other delegates.”

Mr McBride will replace Mitch Williams as the Liberal candidate when the current Member for MacKillop retires at the 2018 election.

The other candidates were Kristie McTernan, Derek James, Tom Dawkins, David Edwards, Peter Gandolfi and Jo Edwards.
