The Tailem Bend Lions Club was chartered more than 40 years ago, on April 24, 1975. 

The club was established with 30 members, and while none of those charter members are still active today, they do provide assistance to the club in numerous ways.

Tailem Bend members has been involved in many money raising activities recently, including Taberefta Lion Queen; bike racing; cabarets; New Year’s Eve at Westbrook; red comb shed meetings self catering; and wood sales. 

They have also been busy with Mallee stump sales; manning the gate at a music festival; collecting cans and bottles; cooking barbecues; selling raffle tickets, Christmas cakes, mints and honey.

Members have also had input in many projects of late, including being involved with Cyclone Tracy Scouts Darwin; Tailem Bend Primary School pool; CFS fire unit; playground on Railway Terrace; school bus shelters, poultry shed and pedal prix team; and helping with a local bike ride. 

They have also made donations to the hospital, to St Johns, Scouts, Guides and bush fire appeals, and have helped either renew or replace the entrance wall at the cemetery; a defibrillator at the medial centre; seats and shelter at the cemetery; seats at the war memorial; beds, televisions and wheelchairs at the hospital; and shelters along Princes Highway, among other things. Their latest project is a shed for the animal sculpture park.

Tailem Bend Lions Club hold two meetings a month: a dinner at the Riverside Hotel on the second Tuesday of every month, and a more formal meeting at the Tailem Bend Lion’s Den, on Travena Road, on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
