They did it! Keith Durham's A2 Pennants team, unbeaten throughout the minor round, held on to win a nail-biting final over a tenacious Mt. Compass side at Victor Harbor GC last Sunday in wintry conditions.
The final score was 4.5 to 2.5 which sounds comfortable enough but not so as earlier wins to Jeremy Scannell, James Brown and Andrew Meddle coupled with rare defeats to Happy Gilmour and Mark Bolton had the final on edge with two pairs still playing.
Jared Thoman had a tight tussle with his opponent, as was Gavin before he ended it all square after 18 it was off to the 19th (the first hole) to see who could prevail.
Gavin stood tall, clinching the win. Jared and his opponent playing behind, having heard the result, shook hands and called their game a draw for a 4.5 to 2.5 final match score.
Keith marshalled his troops superbly over the season and his team on grand final day was so strong that even he couldn't get a guernsey.
He did his bit along the way though as did other team members Greg Lindeberg, Mitchell Lienert and Mason Merritt. Promotion to the A1's next season now.
