The majority of respondents to a Murray Valley Standard reader poll are against proposed public road names for The Bend Motorsport Park, but only by a small margin.

Developers, the Peregrine Corporation, submitted Bethlehem Way, Jerusalem Drive and Beersheba Way as their chosen names, in a way to acknowledge their heritage.

Religious connotations and World War I connections were respondents’ biggest issues.

The poll asking ‘what do you think of the proposed street names?’ was posted on July 10.

Three hundred and forty-five votes were received in the poll:

  • 165 or 47.83pc responded ‘I don't like them due to their connotations’
  • 123 or 35.65pc responded ‘I don't mind, but motor sport related names would have been better’
  • 35 or 10.14pc responded ‘Nothing wrong with them’
  • 22 or 6.38pc responded ‘It doesn't matter’
