He's been through a helluva lot in the last couple of years but gentle giant Shaun McGlashan hit back with a vengeance last Saturday at Ritter Street when he took out the Carpet Court Stroke competition in fine style.
Struck down with a mystery illness last year which has seriously affected his strength and co-ordination it has been a long haul back for Shaun but his guts and determination has finally paid off and he is back enjoying the game that he loves so much.
His excellent nett 65 gave him a clear win on the day and bragging rights over his mates for at least a week!
The "A" grade was won by Mark Bolton with a fine nett 68 from a very much in form Happy Gilmour who shot another solid round of nett 69.
Garry Ryan led the way in "B" grade with a nett 70 which was a shot too good for playing partner Terry Marsh's nett 71.
A few of our friends from reciprocal rights club Royal Echunga are starting to drift our way as their course slowly turns to mud and two of them showed our "C" graders how to do it.
Colin Golding winning with his superb nett 67 and in fact needing a countback to beat Barry Sparrow who had the same score.
Those players scoring a voucher each were Wade Von Duve and Gary Pearson for their nett 69's and Trev Healy and Chris Nailer for their 70's.
Dean Wright and Tamati Matthews recorded 71's while Brian Wallace, Jeff Reuter, Eric Williams, Andrew Meddle, Trevor Burgess and Randall Cocks each ended their rounds with nett 72's.
The highly sought after Pro comp was for the best back nine nett stroke and it was gleefully taken out by the days overall winner big Shaun with a sizzling nett 31.0.
He had a few anxious moments when another player finished with the same score but he was soon quick to confirm that he was the winner on a countback after a quick inspection of the card.
This Saturday sees another Stroke round being played with it being the third and final qualifying round for the Club Championships.
The 8 qualifiers for each grade will be known come 5pm on Saturday.
You’ve got to be in it to win it.
Saturday August 5 was an Amcal Stroke Round with an impressive number of women playing.
Sarah Christie who is a member at both Murray Bridge and Lameroo Golf Clubs was the Overall Winner of the day with a score of 85/72 points.
Ady Wright played consistently with 109/77 points and was the first of the Open Placegetters. She also won Nearest the Pin on the 11th hole.
Maureen Edwards was very close behind Ady Wright scoring 105/78 points.
Maureen Johnson and Sue Antel weren’t so sure about any help they were getting from the ginger cat who accompanied them in the cart on and off for quite a few holes.
Conditions were ideal for golf on Tuesday August 8 with no wind and some sunshine.
The Women’s Captain, Liz Llewellyn putted and chipped really well all day to win the Amcal Pharmacy Par Round with a score of plus one.
Lyn Pitcher was very pleased with her steady Par round of golf to have a score of zero, especially as she didn’t go in any sand bunkers.
Ady Wright played well on the fairways to again get an Open Place with a score of minus three, followed closely by Dianne Wickes with minus four.
Dianne’s back nine was a huge improvement since her return to golf after holidays as was her drive to win the Davery sponsored Nearest the Pin on the 11th hole.
