Combined Churches Indoor bowls finals

The Combined Churches Indoor Bowls Association contested the final matches of the year with the Neil Schubert Junior tournament, the Congdon Husband and Wives tournament and the Bryan Kay Pairs tournament on Friday night.

Three junior players competed on the night. The winner, Olivia Doutre, won both of her games. In the first game she defeated Robert Day in a close tussle 8 - 7 where she got out to a good lead but lost the last two ends to record a narrow victory. In the second game she defeated Jordyn Day 10 - 3.

Robert Day was second with one win over his younger brother Jordyn 11 - 3. Robert has played against many of the top players all season. Young Jordyn has only been a regular player this year and is still learning the art of good bowling under the guidance of more experienced players.

Six Husband and Wives combinations played three games. The three game winners were Merle and Colin Rawlins. They defeated Greg and Janelle Traeger in the first game 14 - 7 where they started the night with four shots, gave away five shots on the next end but gained four shots on the next end. In the next game they defeated Justin and Anna Day 10 - 5 with consistent bowling. In the last game they defeated Daniel and Jasamine Irvine 7 - 3 where their opponents only managed to score on the last two ends.

Second place was Justin and Anna Day with two wins and a loss. In the first game they defeated Dawn and Barry Hoffman 8 - 4 before losing to the Rawlins pair. They came back to defeat Jan and Roger Farley in the last game 11 - 4 where they began the game with six shots.

In the Pairs several top combinations pitted their skills against the best around. All teams played three games of eight ends. Winners were Yvonne Mach and Lyn Hedger. They were the only combination to win all three games.

In the first game they defeated Robert and Wayne Day 7 - 5. This was a one-sided game until the final ends where the Day pair scored four shots. In the second game they defeated Jordyn Day and Ian Pumpa 9 - 2 with consistent scoring allowing their opponents two single scores. In the last game where they went in as one of three pairs with two wins they defeated Heather Day and Max Paech 10 - 3 who were one of the other two game winners.

Second place was Doug Horn and Neville Rawlins who after losing their first game came back strongly to win their next two. In the first game they were defeated by Terry Franklin and Ben Traeger 3 - 8. In the second game they defeated Alec Burgemeister and Aiden Rawlins 8 - 5 before having a good win 14 - 4 in the final game of the night against Peter Jaensch and Lyndon Farley.

Next week the Association players will celebrate the season with a Presentation Dinner.
