Council looks into time-restricted parking and loading bays on Sixth Street | POLL, PLANS

Time-restricted parking may be introduced and loading bays could be reinstated on Sixth Street after business consultation.

At the Rural City of Murray Bridge’s September 11 meeting, the council voted toaccept a report presented to support the efficient movement of vehicles for local businesses.

At selected Sixth Street bays, two-hour parking would be implemented between the hours of 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday and the current dual-use parking space alongside the Murray Bridge Town Hall would be reinstated to a dedicated loading bay.

The motion to accept the item was put forward by councillor Airlie Keen and seconded by councillor Fred Toogood. The decision was carried unanimously.

Council’s chief executive officer Michael Sedgman said after debate, it was decided that the item should be received, but that the council should consult with key business stakeholders in Sixth Street regarding the reinstallment of timed parking and a dedicated loading bay.

“There was a pretty consistent view amongst the councillors that businesses on Sixth Street should be consulted before any definite decisions were made,” Mr Sedgman said.

“It’s our job as administration to now make sure the decisions of council are carried out.”

The outcomes of the business engagement will be presented to the council in a future report.

At the council’s June 13 meeting, a report was presented seeking endorsement to implement timed restricted parking at parking bays on Sixth Street.

At that meeting, council resolved to receive the proposal and endorse the installation of time restricted parking.
