Oysterfest returns, better than ever at Ceduna in 2017

The 2017 Ceduna Oysterfest is back!

The beloved event is set to be a spectacular showcase of Far West Coast hospitality, jam-packed with entertainment, activities, competitions and more.

Held from September 28 to October 1, this year there will be a focus on expanding the variety of the best in local seafood to complement the signature Far West Coast Oysters.

The West Coast Eats premium food precinct will incorporate a large outdoor entertainment stage, shade marquees and full bar facilities, including the Clare Valley Wine Bar.

Events begin on Thursday afternoon with an excellent exhibition of local artists held in the Ceduna Memorial Hall.

Friday

Day two will see a drumming performance and workshop with the Damushi Ensemble alongside a free seafood tasting, starring guest Chef Simon Bryant, with demonstrations of oyster opening and fish filleting.

The opening of the Oysterfest will be celebrated in style in the new West Coast Eats premium food precinct from 7pm. Catered by Epicurean Tucker Box, there will be a stunning cocktail menu with canapes all night, full bar facilities and entertainment.

The SA Sail Training Vessel the One & All will again be returning to Ceduna for the Oysterfest, hosting an intimate five-hour lunch cruise experience for a limited number of lucky patrons. For more information visit www.oneandallship.com.au.

Meanwhile Adelaide band Rushmore will be appearing at the Ceduna Blues Sports Club from 9pm.

Saturday

To kick off the weekend Chris Sperou will take to the skies, letting everyone know the Oysterfest has truly begun.

The Oysterfest Street Parade will lead everyone to the main site on the shores of Murat Bay for the official opening. Here a series of arts workshops, live music, kids activities, carnival amusements and competitions will happen.

Budding fishmongers will test their skills in the fish filleting competition while Tasting Australia’s Creative Director Simon Bryant will host a cooking demonstration in the McEvoy Marquee. The Oysterfest Art and Craft market will be open from 11.30am to 6pm in the McEvoy Marquee, which will also host the Eyre Peninsula Tourist Lounge and performances by the Black String Puppet Theatre.

After the AFL Grand Final concludes there will be plenty of musical entertainment to take the crowds into the evening, headlined by Ghana’s Damushi Ensemble and the Tamworth Country Music Festival regular Amber Joy Poulton. Local emerging artists will join Amber onstage in the Pearl in the Shell Talent Quest with DJ KZ following.

Sunday

Sunday morning will see the return of the revered Pancake Breakfast in West Coast Eats and the traditional combined Church Service in the McEvoy Marquee.

Popular events such as the Kids Iced Coffee Hold and Treasure Hunts will be happening alongside the coveted Stein Holding competition before the signature competition of Oysterfest – the Oyster Shuck & Eat! Before this gets underway there will be a demonstration from some of the areas fastest professional shuckers.

The Damushi Ensemble and then Amber Joy Poulton will return to the stage, while Port Lincoln singer/songwriter Yamaya will perform at the Ceduna Sailing Club, with a relaxed gourmet bbq catered by Epicurean Tuckerbox.

Once again the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Fireworks Spectacular will light the skies over Murat Bay as the crowd kicks on with local band Anchord and West Coast Eats will keep your hunger at bay until close at 11pm

Food, glorious food

One of the main reasons why so many people come to the Oysterfest, and just keep coming back, are the local oysters.

They will again be prepared to perfection by the growers who know them best.

In the West Coast Eats food zone the Ceduna Equestrian Club Fish and Chippery will be offering local King George whiting or salt & pepper squid with chips cooked by volunteers. You can’t get much more West Coast than that.

Bills Pizza and Pasta will be serving up pizza, sweets, gelato and gourmet pies while Ceduna Bakery Coffee will have barista coffee, sandwiches, rolls, drinks and the iconic Oyster Pie. 

Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Bar will serve a selection of beer, spirits and other cold beverages and the Ceduna Hospital Auxiliary will make pancakes with quandong sauce and icecream.

With a range of wines hand picked for the Oysterfest, Clare Valley Winemakers are running the ‘Clare with Fresh Eyre’ wine bar while Squid Eat will have premium EP salt’n’pepper squid with fluffy crisp chips.

Ceduna Crossways Lutheran School volunteers have sugar and cinnamon donuts, Haley’s Floss has slushies, fairy floss, popcorn and lollies.

Natura’s Icecreamery will sell icecreams, sorbets, hot dogs, kranskis and milk shakes.

Licorice Online stock a great range of licorice while Sunliner Catering will have a full range of carnival foods.
