Sturt won 7.8 (50) against Port Adelaide’s 7.7 (49) in the SANFL Grand Final on Sunday, September 24.

Sturt’s 2017 season culminated in stunning style with premierships in each of their three top grades - SANFL under 18s, Reserves - and ultimately the League side in a grand final thriller by the smallest of margins

This year’s league grand final between Sturt and Port Adelaide would prove to be an absolute nail-biter.

The Double Blues were two goals up at half-time after a dour first half and kick the only goal of the third quarter to led by 17 points going into the final stanza.

As expected Port Adelaide charge back into the contest through a pair of brilliant goals from mercurial Brendon Ah Chee.

A goal to Kory Beard, after a free kick and a James Battersby point would prove critical for the Double Blues – who secured back-to-back premierships for the first time since 1967.

The final score was Sturt 7.8 (50) defeating Port 7.7 (49).  

Sturt Premiership coach Martin Mattner said the Grand Final wasn't brutal encounter with over 250 tackles for the game. .

“It was simply hard contested finals football, with the low scoring giving both teams and opportunity  for victory,” Mattner continued.  

Craig Evans collected the Jack Oatey Medal as best on ground in front of Jack Stephens and Aiden Reilly.
