The Country Fire Service (CFS) is looking to bolster its volunteer ranks ahead of the summer fire season.
Murray Bridge brigade captain Jiron Blacket said CFS volunteers were community-minded people who wanted to make their towns safer.
"Whether you are a shift worker, a nine-to-fiver or a stay-at-home parent, you are all welcome to join," he said.
Firefighters are trained to deal with bush and grass fires, building fires, storms and floods, road crashes, chemical spills and industrial accidents.
All personal protective equipment is provided.
Training sessions are held once per week at most brigades, and volunteers incur no out-of-pocket expenses.
There are 10 brigades in the CFS' Swanport group, centred on Murray Bridge, and 11 in the Mallee group.
Start and end dates for the 2017-18 fire danger season have not yet been confirmed by the CFS, but have fallen on or near November 15 and April 15 in previous years.
