Saying Yasmin Napier had a nice surprise when she arrived at Murray Bridge Regional Gallery on Friday night would be putting it mildly.
It took a few moments for the sight of the “overall winner” label next to her artwork, “Void”, to register, and with it the realisation she had won a $1000 prize.
She and one of three category winners, Sorcha Yelland, reached the launch event a few moments after the prizes were announced; Ms Yelland learned about her success from The Standard’s photographer.
She, Sophie-Chantelle Meers and Ana Penck each took home $350 for winning categories split by age group.
Bar table creator Nathan Modra also earned a special mention from the judges.
Local musician Zoe Smith played music while a crowd inspected the art, hung by Detlef Baumer, and nibbled at finger food.
The youth art exhibition will be open until December 3.
