After a nation-wide search to find the country’s most impressive working dogs, Sonny the Blue Heeler is the new face of Philmac.

The 10-month old will be one of 15 Australian working dogs included on the 2018 Philmac Australian Working Dog Calendar.

Owner Craig Borchardt said his sidekick deserved the honour.

Mr Borchardt, who owns a farm in Tinitnara and manages another farm at Field near Coonalpyn, said he sent photos of Sonny in after seeing a flyer in Cox Rural in Coonalpyn.

“I saw they were looking for a Blue Heeler, and I think he’s a good-looking young pup, so I sent in a few photos and he was eventually picked,” he said.

Despite his age, Mr Brochardt said Sonny is already a quality working dog being mentored by an older Blue Heeler.

“Provided all goes well, Sonny’s got a bright future ahead,” he said. “He’s my mate and I’ll be really happy to see him in the calendar.”

The photo shoot took place on October 25 and the calendar will be printed in November. The images taken will be is promoted throughout Australia and overseas on screens, in magazines and on billboards.
