Alexander Skarsgard is currently bald and nobody is coping

It's common for Alexander Skarsgard to draw attention on red carpets, but the Big Little Lies star caused quite the ruckus on social media when he stepped out with a partially bald haircut while attending a celebration of Louis Vuitton's Volez Voguez Voyagez?????? exhibition in New York.

Sure we have seen Skarsgard with long hair in Tarzan and also a full comb-over, but this is the first public instance he has shaved the top of his head to a bald crown, with the sides trimmed slightly unevenly.

At first glance it would be easy to mistake Skarsgard's new hair as The Simpsons' Mr Burns, or Seinfeld's George Costanza inspired Halloween costume.

InsteadUSA Today noted the new 'do is likely for his upcoming movie role in The Hummingbird Project, a Wall Street drama also starring Salma Hayek and Jesse Eisenberg. Proving the 41-year-old has method acting down pat.

Fans were sent into a frenzy on social media, many drawing comparisons to other celebrities, including Ron Howard and Prince William, as well making joking accusations of "male pattern baldness appropriation."

Though not everybody hated the look.

Others are taking a page out of Donald Trump's tweeting method in hoping it is "fake news."

At the Emmy Awards back in September, Skarsgard sported a his full-length classic hairstyle with a moustache when he accepted his award for outstanding supporting actor in a limited series or movie for his role as Perry Wright in HBO's Big Little Lies. The actor kept his new 'do under wraps when he was spotted out in New York, wearing a navy beanie to reveal his hair first at the exhibition.

And some are just counting down the days until his hair returns to normal.
