How are you going in the SSM vote’s shadow?

How are you going?

It’s a question we are encouraged to ask during the RUOK campaign.

I was reminded recently of the importance of asking your friends, workmates, sons, daughters, those you know to be impacted by the marriage equality vote, “how are you going?”

By asking this you acknowledge this vote and the “noise” surrounding it may be having a personal impact on someone you care about.

Research has demonstrated that a disproportionate number of LGBTIQA+ people experience poorer mental health outcomes than the heterosexual population and this is directly related to experiences of stigma, prejudice, discrimination and abuse on the basis of being LGBTIQA+.
