The Mannum community is gearing up for a fun and active weekend for the 2017 Murraylands APEX Mannum Fun Run and Walk this Sunday.
Para-athletics World Championships athlete Daniel Kirk and Mannum’s own SANFL Sturt premiership player Josh Dodd will attend the event as ambassadors, encouraging people from the area to sign up no matter age or ability.
Mid Murray Council obesity prevention and lifestyle (OPAL) Program Manager Amy Loechel said the event wold have a category to suit every fitness level, including a newly-introduced three kilometre run and the ever-popular kids dash event.
“It’s a fun fitness event for the whole family to get involved in, with something on offer for the juniors right up to seniors,” she said.
“You can bring a pram or bring the dog along for the 5km walk/run event or even swing by in your gopher or wheelchair for the three kilometre event.”
Ms Loechel said there is also the big 10km run “for those who love a fitness challenge.”
According to the Mid Murray Council website, Murraylands APEX will provide a free breakfast for participants including healthy egg and bacon sandwiches and yoghurt and fruit cups.
For a morning kick-start, there will also be coffee and other hot drinks available for purchase.
In it’s seventh year, the organising committee have worked hard to keep the community event free for participants but are welcoming donations to help keep it running into the future.
The community can pre-register for the event on the Mid Murray Council website but entrants can also sign up on the day from 8.15am.
The weather forecast is predicting a warm Spring day and plenty of sunshine on the Sunday and Ms Loechel invited the whole community to come along.
“What a great way to end your weekend with a nice run or walk along the banks of the Murray River with family and friends,” she said.
The warm-up will begin at 8.45am and the run will get underway at 9am.
