Mannum Community College honoured all of these special people on Friday, November 3 during our Grand-Friends’ Day.
Many students made something for their grandparents or special friends.
Children need grand-friends, anybody’s grand-friends, to grow a little more securely into an unfamiliar world.
They need the essentials that grand-friends provide in abundance.
Grand-friends give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humour, comfort and lessons in life.
Sometimes they even give lollies.
We know families are made up of both blood relatives and other special people who add values to the lives of young people.
Grand-friends can be neighbours, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends who play a special role in the lives of our students.
Grand-Friends’ Day is an annual school event that provides an opportunity for students to share their Mannum Community College experience with a wider group of people who are important in their lives.
At the special whole-school assembly, some students shared their poetry, art/craft work or dance performance.
Grand-friends were then invited to indulge in a giant cake made as a tribute before heading off to share a range of activities in classes.
We look forward to a repeat in 2018.
