More than half of Australian parents would not know how to perform CPR on a young child in an emergency, according to research by Westpac.
That realisation was what prompted the bank to launch a water safety awareness campaign, #safe4summer, and its centrepiece: a range of child-sized "rescue rashies" with CPR instructions written on the chest.
The rashies are predominantly being offered for sale online, with any proceeds to be donated to Take Heart Australia to fund CPR training.
They were also given away to Westpac customers in Murray Bridge, along with various other goodies, as part of a customer appreciation day on Thursday.
Regional general manager Paul Longayroux said he was incredibly proud of the safety campaign, and his kids would be wearing the rashies this summer.
He said all Westpac staff were also being put through CPR training.
"We see the importance of it," he said.
As well as taking an interest in water safety, Westpac has sponsored an Adelaide-based rescue helicopter service since 2005.
