Over $1 millon has been spent to upgrade Tauragat Well Road.

The road upgrades were a joint project, with the Federal Government committing $734,000 and the Southern Mallee District Council has spending $366,000 to fund the $1,100,000 project.

The road links the Dukes Highway with Parrakie South Road, and stretches stretches roughly 39 kilometres before becoming Pfieffer Road.

Works on the road included the full reconstruction and realignment of a 4.5 kilometre section of the road, remediating failing sections of road pavement and widening the current roadway with a two coat bitumen seal

Southern Mallee District Council Mayor Andrew Greiger said the road had become increasingly important to the community, and he was glad to see the project nearing completion.

We’ve been seeing ever-increasing traffic on the road and we’re just very thankful that we’ve been able to get this project done.

“We’ve been seeing ever-increasing traffic on the road and we’re just very thankful that we’ve been able to get this project done,” he said.

“This really has become a vital road for our region, as it provides a link to the Dukes Highway.”

Mr Grieger said the upgrade would be a bonus to both the Southern Mallee and Coorong District Council regions.

“This will be a big plus for the wider region.”

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin said motorists in the area would welcome the project.

“This project will address current issues with the road including poor alignment and insufficient road width for B-Doubles,” he said.

“The road services numerous dairies, cattle farms and provides a significant transport route for the local community.”

Mr Pasin said the Roads to Recovery funding for Tauragat Well Road would greatly assist the council to complete the important upgrade.

Mr Grieger said the Federal Government funding had been used to deliver a range of projects within the region.

“This funding allows us to deliver upgrades to our local roads,” Mr Grieger said.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the Australian Government is committed to improving local roads throughout South Australian, under the Roads to Recovery program.

“This project is a fantastic example of how communities are benefitting from the repair and upgrade of critical local roads,” Mr Chester said.
