Minister grants approval for continuous prohibition period for the Dry Area in Mannum township

On October 6 the Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs granted approval to the continuous prohibition period for the Dry Areas (Long Term) in Mannum, with previous periods of prohibition only extending to five-years.

Dry Areas had been approved by the Minister since May 2002 between the hours of 11pm and 8am within the township of Mannum.

The implementation of the Dry Area emerged as a direct request from Mannum Police and residents in the area dealing with problems and incidents related to alcohol within the main street and riverfront areas in the town during the designated hours.

The presence of the Dry Areas in Mannum, which expired in May 2017, reduced these alcohol related problems and spurred local members of parliament, local business and community groups to address displacement issues.
