ac.care are taking the opportunity to express their thanks to the community for their support this year.

The charity was able to recruit more foster carers, the homelessness service won a State award, businesses supported the Career Kick Start for people experiencing homelessness and they secured additional funding through Fund My Neighbourhood.

We want to say thank you to the foster carers in the Murraylands/Adelaide Hills communities for their care and commitment,” said spokesperson Anne Hinkly-Tyler.

“There are currently 62 foster carers, yet more are needed for the community’s children and young people.”

Over 500 people accessed the homelessness service. 56 per cent were women, 15 per cent were family groups with dependent children and the top two presenting issues were mental health and family violence.

In a significant achievement, the TED program, developed from donations, won the 2017 Australasian Housing Institute award for Leading Community Engagement Practice.

“Thank you to the community who donated to the Council’s inaugural Christmas appeal,” Anne said.

“The gifts will bring some cheer to the most vulnerable in our community.”

ac.care was also very pleased to be involved in securing a Fund My Neighbourhood grant.

The money received went towards upgrading the amenities at the Murray Bridge Community Centre to provide safe and accessible shower and laundry facilities for those in need.

Also during the year over 5,000 people attended a Communities For Children event, including over 2,500 children.

The organisation was also pleased to be able to provide four Youth Resilience Scholarships, to assist disadvantaged young people in Murray Bridge and surrounds who have accessed our homelessness services with their education.

Donations are always welcome for this scholarship, and can be made at www.givenow.com.au/accareruralpeople
