The Murraylands Community Men’s Shed has been announced as the 2017 recipient of IGA Swanport’s community chest program.

Funds for the community chest program are raised throughout the year when customers purchase products which carry the IGA community chest program and through various events run at and by the store.

IGA Swanport owner Bruce Maczkowiack said the choice to donate the funds to the men’s shed was due to their involvement in supporting and giving back to the community.

“We are so impressed with what they do at the men’s shed and how much they do for and in the community,” he said.

“The initiative that they have as an organisation is something I find really inspiring so it is wonderful to be able to give something back to them.”

Men’s shed secretary Mick Loeckenhoff said the men’s shed relied on these types of donations to keep it going.

“This way we we are able to keep putting back into the community and pay forward the goodwill that has been shown to us,” he said.

“People often come to us asking for help and through community funding we are able to help those who need it.”
