One hundred and twenty-six metres of water mains along Ferries McDonald Road between McLean and White roads in Monarto South will be replaced.
The pipes will be replaced during January and February to reduce the impact of water main breaks.
Work to install the new water mains will typically take place between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Saturday and is anticipated to take around four weeks to complete.
Both the old and new water mains have an expected lifespan of 100 years.
SA Water's asset operations and delivery general manager Mark Gobbie said this section of water main was prioritised for replacement to improve flow rates of water through the pipe.
“The new pipes will be made of PVC, which is flexible and more resistant to the movement caused by the area’s reactive clay soils than existing, rigid cast iron and fibro-cement pipes,” he said.
Mr Gobbie said residents should also check their letterbox for advanced notice of any temporary water supply outages.
