More success for students at Unity College

It has been another year of excellent results for Unity College, with the class of 2017 being rewarded for the considerable effort, determination and resilience shown by students and their teachers.

At a recent awards ceremony the school congratulated Shaylee Jacobs who, with an ATAR of 91.70, was awarded DUX of Unity College. Shaylee will begin a Bachelor of Midwifery this year.

Shaylee was closely followed by Lochlan Gotch who with an ATAR of 91.55 was runner-Up DUX. Lochlan will begin a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science.

In total, 5 students received an ATAR higher than 90.

It is also worth noting that 100 per cent of students achieved their SACE, well above the state average, while 49 per cent of students scored an ATAR of 70 or above and 74 per cent of all grades achieved by the Class of 2017 were A and B grades.

The school also congratulates Thomas Worthley for his Merit Award for the Research Project.

Tertiary and Future Directions

90 per cent of Unity College 2017 Year 12 students achieved an ATAR score to guarantee one of their tertiary study preferences. Many students will begin a wide variety of courses in 2018, including Marketing and Communication, Health Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise and Sport Science, Education (Early Childhood, Primary and Middle), Aviation (Pilot), Laws and Legal Practice, Midwifery, Engineering (Civil and Project Management).

Students have also been accepted into a variety of apprenticeships and training courses while others still have accepted positions in the work force. Students also enjoyed a very successful year in the VET in SACE program. 23 students gained a complete Certificate III qualification in a variety of courses.

2018 Student Leadership

Unity College Middle/Senior School student leadership teams for 2018 were inducted into their roles. The school congratulates all new Senior School Student Leaders, House Captains, SRC reps and Year 9 Ambassadors.

New Head of Middle School

Mrs Lisa Kuhlmann was inducted as Head of Middle School at the 2018 Opening Service. Mrs Kuhlmann comes to Unity from Pedare Christian College, where she previously served for 10 years as a Middle and Senior School Teacher and Middle Management Leader. Lisa’s specialty topics are Christian Life, home economics, food and hospitality and science and has a strong interest in Pedal Prix. The school is highly anticipating what Lisa will bring to the college community.
