Greens MLC Mark Parnell visits Victor Harbor, talks planning

VICTOR HARBOR - More transparency and community consultation in planning decisions is needed from all forms of government, says the Greens candidate for Finniss.

Greens MLC Mark Parnell and Finniss candidate Dr Moira Jenkins met with about 60 people at a forum discussing planning in Victor Harbor on Sunday, February 9.

Dr Jenkins said there is not enough transparency at all levels to comment on future developments and it is difficult to challenge some decisions.

The Greens have introduced a bill in the upper house to have laws amended so there are opportunities for parties to challenge planning decisions.

For example, a stage one project, like the one at 18 Sturt Street, may not require consultation once submitted to council, but it might impact on a neighbouring property.

For example, the new building might cast a shadow over the solar panels of an existing building. Currently, the owner of that building has little room to contest the decision.

City of Victor Harbor elected members who were present at the meeting were councillors Tim Telfer and Bob Marshall.
