BOWHILL Engineering has taken out the Regional Business Award at the South Australian Telstra Business Awards.
Managing directors Jeremy and Jodie Hawkes and production manager Tom Dennis were presented with the award at a gala dinner at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Friday.
Mr Hawkes said the win would promote pride and optimism in the workplace and the region.
"We're surprised but really, really happy to win, it fits in with who we are," he said.
"It's something to be really proud of as an organisation, but we'll take it as a win as a region."
He said each finalist received a plaque at the presentation before the State winner was announced.
"It was a great atmosphere, and we were surrounded by really positive people," he said.
The business will now be entered for the national award, which will be presented in Melbourne in August.
"I've been told by previous winners that it's a great event, I'm really looking forward to it," Mr Hawkes said.
He said the business was based in Bowhill because it was couple's home and they were passionate about the town and region.
"Many people have asked me why we would base an engineering business such as ours in this seemingly odd location, but for us, it's a no-brainer," he said.
Telstra Awards judges said the business' strength, leadership and spirit showed.
"Every business decision is based on three principles of work life balance, security for themselves and their employees, and a thriving community," they said.
"The business is a great role model with outstanding leadership, strong business acumen and business management and an unwavering community spirit."
