People from Karoonda and surrounds will not be able to use the area school's pool this summer.
The pool will be closed during the swimming season because repairs need to be carried out.
Coordinator Jenny Gregory said the pool has been in needof repairs for a few years.
"She's broken down and needs fixing," she said.
"Repairs were done a while back and as a temporary measure they put a liner in it, and it's deteriorated with age.
"Now, unfortunately, we've had to close it."
She said the liner had lifted and tiles were starting to fall from the pool.
"It's not that we want it to be out of action, it's just because the liner's come up," she said.
Mrs Gregory said the closure meant swimming programs such as Vacswim, a ladies' group and water aerobics would not take place in the town this season, and the Karoonda Area School's swimming carnival was likely to take place at Coonalpyn sometime next year.
"It's disappointing, it's the wrong time of year for it to happen," she said.
Mrs Gregory said a structural report had been sent to the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to see what could be done to repair the pool and if the fix would be government-funded.
"If they do provide funding, we want it to be done up properly," she said.
"It's so used out here - by the elderly, by little kids, for Vacswim ... and that's besides the school groups."
She said the closest pool to Karoonda was Murray Bridge, which was almost an hour's drive.
The Standard contacted the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, but comment was not received before deadline.
