FORMER Bowhill resident and rising cricket star Kelvin Smith has signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the next two seasons.
The emerging left-handed batsman was originally named as the Adelaide Strikers' community rookie for last year's Big Bash League (BBL) campaign but earned a promotion to the senior list following an injury to paceman Chadd Sayers.
Smith, 20, made his Big Bash debut in January, helping the Adelaide Strikers consolidate top position on the minor round ladder in a win over the Melbourne Renegades with a solid 41 runs, not out, from 34 balls.
He combined with Travis Head (71 off 34 deliveries) to build a 90-run partnership that day and has been rewarded with a spot on the list.
Smith said he hoped to make the most of his the upcoming season.
"I am looking forward to every opportunity I can get my hands on this year," he said.
The young gun said he looked forward to have the guidance of South Australian great Jason Gillespie, who will coach the Strikers for the next two seasons.
Following his BBL debut last season, Smith regained his spot in the South Australia Sheffield Shield side for five matches, recording to half-centeries - blasting a score of 75 and a knock of 56 in a good end to the summer.
