Four Mid Murray Schools were treated to a special visit from Port Adelaide players as part of the Australia Post AFL Community Camp.

Thanks to the support of Mid Murray Family Connection and Mid Murray Council’s OPAL and Fun 4 YOUth programs, the players inspired students at Swan Reach, Cadell, Truro and Blanchtown.

The sessions focused on the pathways between sport, school, attendance, healthy lifestyle behaviours and healthy minds.

Swan Reach Area School Sports Coordinator Troy Cowland said it was great to have the players visit the school.

“They spoke and interacted really well with both the primary and secondary students,” he said.

“The students were able to get a real insight into the persistence and resilience required to make it at the top level.”

Year 5 student Tessa Wiebrecht said she was happy to see the Port players at her school.

“My favourite part was when we compared height with the players,” she said.

Tessa said she learned what the players eat to stay fit and healthy, she also said they found out who was the most annoying player on the team.

During the visit, the players informed the students about certain choices they can make to ensure they are fit and healthy and stressed that water is the best drink to maintain a healthy body.
