After several years of work, the club will use the funds from the Female Facilities Program to install ladies change rooms, female toilets, showers and storage facilities.

Club president Hayden Weckert said the projects had been on their radar for quite some time, and this grant is the result of a lot of hard work.

“We’ve had a lot of input and help from so many people over the years, but especially from our netball club secretary Kelli Harvey who has become our club's grants officer,” he said.

The club’s committee had been looking to improve the facilities due to their inadequacy for female footballers in particular.

“For a long time the women have had no changing rooms, so this will really allow us to cater for our athletes and to even hopefully expand in the future.

“This is a very exciting time for Peake and for the club,” Weckert said.

Work on the new facilities will bet underway in September, once all of the formal procedures are complete.

The Loxton Sporting Centre and Waikerie Community and Sports Centre both also received funding in the program.

Minister for Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell said the program is a huge boost for the sporting organisations and will provide the sort of infrastructure that will set the clubs up for generations.

Twenty-one sporting sites will share in this round of funding to build or upgrade female change rooms and amenities.

“I’m thrilled we’re able to give funding for female friendly facilities at the Loxton Sporting Centre, Waikerie Community and Sports Centre and Peake and District Sporting Club – it’s fantastic this program supports clubs all over the State – and particularly in regional areas where access to sport is so important in local communities,” he said.

Not-for-profit sports clubs, associations and community groups which can apply for a maximum of $500,000.
